GCTA Trustees

As a registered charity, Greatworth Community Transport Association is managed by its
Trustees. The number of trustees is defined in the charity’s Constitution which states a minimum of 4 and a maximum of 7. There are five appointed trustees initially and they serve for a period of three years from 22nd April 2020. The current Trustees are:

  • Richard Edwards (Chairman)
  • Richard Hooper (Treasurer)
  • Simon Bingham
  • Michael Froom
  • Martin Gaskin

The trustees are responsible for the strategic planning, legal compliance and smooth running of the charity, including its financial affairs, administration and organising the volunteers.

GCTA is a “not-for-profit” organisation which means that all income received is reinvested into the services provided and used for the benefit of the community. All trustees, administrators and drivers are volunteers and give their time free of charge. The financial accounts have to be submitted to the charity commission annually and during the three-year grant period, the finances must be reported every six months to the grant authority. Any surplus funds at the end of a financial year will be used to further the purpose of providing transport through subsidised operations, expanding the services or any other ways of serving the community.

Funding

GCTA have successfully applied for funding from the HS2 Community and Environment Fund (CEF), managed by Groundwork with an award of £74,977. This is to cover the costs for running the minibus for a period of three years. The grant is drawn down in portions to cover 6-month periods. In addition, we have been awarded a further grant from South Northants Council (SNC) for £4,999 towards the running costs.

Whilst the grant funding is expected to cover the budgeted running costs, inevitably there will be some unforeseen costs. Also, we hope to continue running the minibus once the grant funding ends. In order to build up funds to continue the service after 3 years, we are asking passengers to make a voluntary contribution each time they use the minibus. Those contributions will be used solely for funding the continuation of the transport services.

Whilst the grant funding helps us during the period of HS2 construction, we strongly believe that there is a need for the services to continue for as long as it is viable.

Community Transport Association (UK)

In all parts of the UK, thousands of community transport staff and volunteers help people to stay independent, participate in their communities and access public services and employment. The Community Transport Association is a national charity that represents and supports these organisations such as charities, community groups, schools etc, who all provide transport services that fulfil a social purpose and provide community benefit

GCTA is a member of CTA(UK) who has assisted us in starting up, meeting regulations and reparing procedures to run our services. It is with the advice from CTA that we decided to run the services under a Section 19 Permit.
