About the Travel Club

Greatworth Community Transport Association must obtain a permit to operate its transport services. After undertaking extensive research and taking advice from several sources, we decided to operate under a Section 19 Permit. This means our drivers do not need a Public Service Vehicle (PSV) licence to drive the minibus. However, this also means that we are not allowed to transport the general public or compete with established bus routes. We are only allowed to transport members of our organisation. To meet these requirements, we have formed the GCTA Travel Club.

The GCTA Travel Club is open to any residents or visitors and joining is simple and free to everyone. All we require is for individuals to fill in a short and simple application form with a few details including contact details, age group and whether you need assistance in boarding or disembarking the minibus. The contact details are required to notify you of any changes to the journeys or your bookings. The age group details are required to fulfil one of the conditions of the grant authority where we have to report on the numbers and age demographics of our passengers.

Application forms are available online and will also be available from the driver when services commence. Each individual will have to apply as joint membership or group membership is not allowed. Hard copies of the application form should be returned to Richard Hooper or handed in to the driver. Online copies can be emailed to enquiries@gcta.org.uk. Application forms may be obtained from the driver and once completed, the new member may be allowed to travel straight away at the discretion of the driver and if there are seats available. Members should make themselves aware of the Travel Club terms & conditions.

Once you are enrolled as a member of the Travel Club, you will need to book your place on the minibus in advance to ensure your place for a journey. Email bookings@gcta.org.uk or call 01295 574536. Places are allocated on a first come first served basis and restricted to the maximum passenger limit. This passenger limit may be less than the number of seats in the event of government restrictions during the Covid pandemic. Entry to the minibus for any member who has not pre-booked is at the discretion of the driver and dependent on free capacity.

Organisations or groups wishing to book the minibus for their own journeys must send an enquiry to bookings@gcta.org.uk or call 01295 574536 to find out if the minibus is available on the day and time required. They will need to complete a booking form with details of the journey and passengers. Each member of the organisation/group must be a member of the GCTA Travel Club in order to travel on the minibus. The group organiser will have to provide the names of each person travelling on the minibus to ensure that they are all members. In addition, the organiser must notify the booking clerk whether they require a volunteer driver or they are providing their own driver. If providing their own driver, the driver must be suitably qualified, trained and pre-approved by GCTA.

Wheelchair Access

Passengers who require assistance in boarding or disembarking the minibus should note this on their application form. In the event that the need for assistance develops after joining the travel club, you must inform the booking clerk at the time of booking and they will inform the driver. Any passenger requiring wheelchair access must notify the booking clerk well in advance.
